This week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe, Rick Katz's Brownies for Julia, was chosen by Chocolatechic. You can find the recipe on her blog.
I know I am the strangest person on the planet, but believe me when I say- Brownies do absolutely nothing for me. I hardly ever make them just because I don't crave them. They are my son's fave dessert, but I don't make them very often.
I thought about skipping this recipe. Then I just decided to make them and give them away.
These brownies are unique because half of the egg/sugar mixture is just mixed into the batter and the other half of the egg/sugar mixture is whipped which results in a fudgy, smooth brownie.
I had to bake mine for 15 minutes more than the recipe called for because they were still liquid in the middle.
I let them set in the fridge overnight so I could cut them (they were still quite gooey) and that morning I sent them with my husband to work.
If you are a brownie lover, I suggest you try these, although I am sorry I can't comment on if they were great or not.
My hubby brought home an empty container from work, so obviously someone liked them!

Cinnamon Bun Cookies
A couple of my blogging/twitter friends started Secret Baker. Basically, a bunch of us bake and then send treats to our "secret" person, once a month.
This month I got these Cinnamon Bun Cookies. So, I didn't make them, but I took a picture of them because Margaret is going to post a round-up of all the goods that were received.
These were just so yummy, I thought I would give you the link, even though I didn't make them myself. They would be a great addition to a holiday treat plate!
Thanks to Whitney of Nosh and Tell who sent these to me!

twd-Chocolate Souffle
I have never made chocolate souffle. Well, until the other night, I hadn't ever made chocolate souffle.
Susan of She's Becoming DoughMessTic chose Chocolate Souffle for this week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe. You can find the recipe on her blog. If you haven't checked out her blog, take some time to check out the amazing cakes, cookies and other things that she has created! That girl has got talent!
I debated about making this one, but I don't know why. When Nancy shared her measurements with me for making 1/4 of the recipe, I decided to go ahead and whip it up.
I had a couple of friends coming over and I heard my friends husband in the background on the phone asking if I could make something (meaning dessert, of course). I decided this was my chance to make the souffle and have people to eat it.
I used skim milk and 2 egg whites, instead of measuring out my egg white and semi-sweet chocolate because that is all I had.
I knew I didn't have much time to get a photo before they fell and I got a couple of shots before that happened. I don't really know anything about souffles, so I don't know why mine cracked on top. I did watch them in the oven and they got nice and puffy, but I am sure if you look at the Tuesday's with Dorie Blogroll you will see plenty of souffles that look pretty and perfect.
I didn't get to taste this one. I made 2 individual souffles in 8-oz ramekins and my friend and her hubby each ate one. They really liked it and said it tasted like a brownie. The ramekins were empty, so I guess it was good!

Watermelon Soup with Floating Meringue
I tore this recipe out of Everyday with Rachel Ray Magazine about a year ago. I think.
I mostly forgot about it until I was thumbing through someone else's copy of the same issue and I saw it again.
I am doing some preschool activities with my 4 and 2 year old daughters who are home with me during the day. Nothing too intense, but we officially call it "school", so that there can be rules and specific time set aside to do the lessons and things that I want to do. Amazingly enough, my 4 year old is doing really well with this set-up and follows the rules.
I am doing it mostly for her, so she will be ready for the big K, next year.
Anyway, my 4 year old is the child who is the most interested in helping me in the kitchen. I thought this soup would be a fun school snack. We made it together, which was rather messy, especially when the girls took over the job of making melon balls and plopping them into the food processor, but you can't really have fun without a mess, right?
There was lots of splattered watermelon juice, but lots of smiles too.
I reduced the amount of sugar that is added to this soup because our watermelon was soo sweet and delicious. I also only made 1/4 of the recipe because this was our special time and our special treat.
It was quite a fun and delicious day.
