This weeks TWD recipe, Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars, was chosen by Lillian who blogs at Confectiona's Realm. You can find the recipe on her blog.
These bars are like a really thick oatmeal cookie batter, with a chocolate-y layer on top and then more of the cookie batter scattered on top of the chocolate. I made the recipe as is. I kept the peanuts in both the cookie batter and the chocolate layer, the raisins in the chocolate layer, and the cinnamon in the cookie batter. These are just some of the things that other people were talking about leaving out or subbing with something else.
Luckily, I had a lunch that I was scheduled to bring cookies to, and these were all given away.
We did sample one tiny slice, because after these are chilled in the fridge, it is possible to slice off 1/16th-inch slices, and it was a sugary, chocolately, peanutty, cookie delight.
Tasted good and I am pretty sure almost anyone would be a fan of these.
Check out the TWD Blogroll to see what everyone else did with these bars. Did they leave the raisins out? Swap out the nuts with something else? Go and see!

I love your photos! You are lucky that you had a place to take these bars- mine are sitting in my freezer as I am trying to figure out what to do with all of them!
I forgot to put mine in the fridge...
Actually I cut them about an hour out of the oven, and even though they really didn't cut well, that is when they tasted the best.
They look marvelous! We liked them here, didn't love them, but liked them ;)
Great job! Those look amazing!!!
These look wonderful. I haven't tried one yet but my husband says they are perfection.
They look awesome Mary Ann.
I sliced them tiny, too and tossed them in the freezer. That didn't stop me from grabbing one out every once in a while for a frozen candy treat. Very tasty.
I was one of the people that left a lot of things out, but I still loved them. Yours look like they have more chocolate filling than mine, I guess because you included the nuts and raisins. More filling is a very good thing! Next time perhaps I'll double the filling...
Yes, froze some, ate some, gave some away - and there's STILL some left! Very beautifully photographed - they look so rich and delicious (just like they should)! Yes, I included raisins... wish'd I hadn't! :)
Oh stop! You are killing me! I am on the south beach diet.
Going away now.
Wow, those look super rich! I haven't tried these yet.
Oh my gosh - I think Starbucks used to have bars like these. I was obsessed with them! I'm going to have to make these. They look great!
Yep, probably anyone would be a favor of these, I know my guys certainly were. Yours look gorgeous and your restraint totally amazing!
Yours look so perfect on that plate! I also made them with everything...raisins, peanuts, cinnamon. Sent most to work with the hubby to save myself from devouring them!
The bars look great!! The recipe makes so many...its definitely a great one to share with others!! YUM!
They look delicious! You are so lucky you had a place to take these right away! These were in my kitchen for 2 days before I could give them to my boyfriend to take to work! Dangerous!
Your dessert presentations always look so appealing and perfect! Grrrr! ;)
I can't wait to go home and finish o the batch sitting at home. I bought some for the co-workers and of course there are no more left! YAY!
A favorite Dorie recipe so far.
Yours look lovely. Thanks for baking with me this week!
